Quiet Landscapes solo podcast recording
Here is the transcript of the solo podcast I recorded if you prefer to read it. Also available on Apple podcasts if you’d like to subscribe I would be delighted!
“Someone recently described me as an unusual mix of resilience and fragility after hearing me speak. I speak from the heart, and I am not afraid to share the obstacles in my life.
I am well aware that the pain that I have experienced in my life has actually been a blessing – for it has given me the strength I need, the empathy, and understanding to help others through similar. Whether that be something as simple as helping others see that they need to take time out for themselves, to feed their creativity. That this is more important than anything – in doing so they feed their soul, become fulfilled, and are then able to give to their families and relationship.
If I hadn’t been to a place where I left my own creativity behind to look after everyone else and experienced sickness and loss of my very being as a result, how could I help and understand what others are going through.
Or whether it is inspiring people to travel alone if that is what they have always wanted to do, to find a sense of peace, strength, and joy in their introversion. To realise that traveling alone, being alone doesn’t make you odd, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a good relationship as well and it doesn’t mean you have nothing to say. If I hadn’t experienced shame, being continually talked over and unheard for many years, I would never have understood others feeling similar things.
I recently watched the film ” I am woman” and I was exceptionally moved at the end. Those that know the story or the film can understand we saw an incredibly talented and strong lady stopped from doing what moved and helped others by adversity in her life.
And when Helen Reddy came back to the stage, we saw her power come back – but more than that, we saw why it was so important for her to do this. Because of the women who were drawing strength from her… when you step back and realise that what you are doing isn’t about you anymore, there is a strength that comes from that. It allows you to step outside your internal worries, your worries of being not good enough or feeling like a fraud. When you see the people whose lives you are making better simply by giving them direction, or making space for them, when the emphasis goes onto serving others as opposed to yourself, then it is possible to keep doing the work through your own bad times as well as the good times.
It seems like we are all suffering from a touch of imposter syndrome lately. And the fastest way to get over yourself is to focus on those that need and want your help, your teaching, your guidance.
Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)I am invincible (invincible)I am woman
You can bend but never break me’
Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer’
Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul”
