Walking on Beinn Losgaintir & Beinn Dubh

My journeys to the Outer Hebrides are usually full of commercial shoots, weddings and landscape tuition. It is a rare visit to the islands where I have a few days off. Even rarer that those days off are filled with wall to wall sunshine!

The clear sunny weather continued to arrive each day that I woke up on the Hebrides during the week.  So walking to find new viewpoints seemed like a great idea. I have spent a lot of time on the beaches but rarely venture uphill as the water’s edge draws me back continually. However, I would like to explore more of the island on foot and from different vantage points so this was one of the first hills on my list. The going isn’t easy, with no real defined path, but there is something very free about that. Although, there is a route which I found on Walk Highlands and downloaded so that I knew I was going in the right direction!

I headed up Beinn Losgaintir first and was blown away by the gorgeous views back down to Luskentyre for most of the climb. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I continued on up to the top of Beinn Dubh and was greeted with 360 views over the island. I spent some time taking in views of Scalpay, Taransay, towards Hushinish, over Nisabost and Horgabost. The list goes on of beautiful scenery and turquoise seas. I hadn’t hurried up the hills and had stopped regularly taking time to enjoy the sunshine, views and time. Eventually, I headed down to Traigh Rosamol and ended up on the beach with a short walk along the road back to my van.  I hope you enjoy the images from a wonderful day!

I have just released a brand new photography workshop to the Isle of Harris for Nov 2022. The 2021 Isle of Harris workshop is fully booked.

Ceapabhal

I also decided to walk up Ceapabhal on the Isle of Harris. I’ve been meaning to do this on a sunny day for a while, so I set off after photographing a beach wedding earlier that day. I experienced views down to turquoise seas and over Harris. Just me, the cows and sheep and time to just soak in the quiet beauty of the island. The fire seen in the background were moor fires which have continued to burn till tonight.
