Writing Retreat in South Wales
Our first writing retreat in South Wales was a wonderful success. We set out to create a retreat experience in a place with its own beach, scenic walking paths, and cozy indoor spaces perfect for finding a personal writing nook. Each morning, we gathered for inspiring sessions, setting the tone for the day. We even added activities like sea swimming, a moonlit campfire on the beach, a sound bath session, and gentle yoga, all carefully designed to relax and encourage everyone. This gentle approach allowed participants the freedom to spend parts of the day alone—writing, walking, or simply unwinding—because we believe that rest and space are essential to creative inspiration.
Everyone took the time they needed to focus on their own projects or simply relax, letting nature create room for new ideas. Some participants asked if they needed to be seasoned writers to attend. The answer was always no—everyone was welcome. We’re all writers in some form, whether we’re capturing a few lines to complement a photograph, crafting a three-line poem, starting a journal, or jotting down morning pages. Every expression is valid and accessible. For many, a sense of community and being around like-minded individuals was another key source of inspiration. Our group discussions allowed everyone to quietly listen and absorb or actively share their thoughts, concerns, or even pieces of their work.
We kicked off the retreat with a short talk from Sean Tucker on the opening day, followed by a morning inspiration session led by me most days. I also invited my longtime friend, author Chloe Heuch, to join us over the weekend. She led a powerful writing session that resonated deeply with everyone. You can explore more of her work on her website
Each day, we enjoyed home-cooked meals, with everyone pitching in to help. Every aspect of the retreat was infused with a sense of community, from the cozy gatherings around the table to fun group swims for those who braved the sea. Although much of the week encouraged individual retreat, “together” perfectly describes the spirit of the experience.
